John Henry (played with solid screen presence by Terry Crews) is a reserved man living in ghetto-bird Compton, California. When two immigrants flee the clutches of a street gang and wind up on his doorstep, John tries to protect them in any way he can (you gotta love the power of a good old sledgehammer. That"s the gist of 2020"s bloodstained and callous, John Henry. At a running time of 91 small-scale minutes that teeter into art film territory, it"s my latest review.
Distributed by Saban Films, referencing The Human Centipede, and shot almost two years ago in palm treed LA, John Henry comes off as a sort of B-movie with a torrid, grindhouse effect. It"s also like watching a lowly commercialized version of Menace II Society (or Baby Boy) mixed with a little Taxi Driver ( I"m God"s lonely man. br> John Henry has rookie director Will Forbes using various camera angles (and POV shots) with an over-stylized flavor. He"s ambitious, he"s a bit of a show-off, and he commits his whole, mannered shtick to the background sounds of basement tape rap songs (which I kinda liked.
Will"s editor (Joe Rosenbloom of 2018"s Monster Party) fashions John Henry as choppy, random, and askew. Characters you think are dead wind up alive, various shootouts seemed squeamish yet ill-choreographed, and I didn"t quite comprehend the use of VHS recorded flashbacks circa 1994.
Oh well. John Henry has some decent casting (I liked the villain named Hell with part of his face cut off) and despite its shortcomings, possesses an effective way of making the viewer feel unsafe. "Henry" is overly violent, overly mean-spirited, slang-ed in dialogue, and bruised to the gills. I just wish helmer Forbes had tried to settle down and tell his story more systematically. "Oh Henry! Rating: 2 and a half stars.

Love this. This is proper music, not like most shit today, all hail the boss. IT is so perfekt. It"s easy for the host to make comment about the pope and others. What has he done to contribute to the church besides happily recreate and procreate? He thinks he"s holy. I guess the devil loves him because he works as a free agent to cause further fracture to the church. He belongs to the conspiracy group who always looking for doom and gloom punishment. Be simple and holy by praying for everyone. Yes. We live in the end times but we need to pray for the church and the ordained to be faithful and return back to GOD.

Born black, and male, born standing in the line where they pass out the hammers. The trailer doesnt really convince me that this is a good movie, so I came to the comment section to read opinions. Hey I think they left the part out where they forgot to mention this is coming to Netflix and not the theaters because of how awful this looks ????.

 

Wtf. no... I want to see old John Henry. In my opinion i think john henry is the representation of chain gangs, underpayed poor people of color on railroads throughout america. idk im just im right then i write my respect for those the strength at now in the people. This man is by far the greatest guitarist of my time. Hands down. No question about it. LOVE his sound. On the bright side it wasn"t dwayne the Rock johnson the hero again. Great song. Nice FX with the chains. Odd set of lyrics - go listen to Odetta sing it! John Henry drilled holes for placing dynamite to blast through the mountain to build the Big Bend Tunnel. This video is odd - the song is mix of more than one tradition. (No women drove steel. But okay - great Belafonte song.

This man has got the touch! you can feel it. This isn"t just a song, it"s a symphony.

 

My bucket list to meet Joe one day ! ?. I"m surprised Thanos isn"t in this movie. Pure musical perfection... I cant even believe how fantastic this is. Awesome. Plot was weak if it was an actual plot at all. Wouldn"t watch this ever again. Looks like they picked roman over the rock for this movie. The best bro come to the bask country. WV ledgend. Harry Belafonte has a great voice.

Wow didn"t expect such a heavenly sound! I love that guitar and slide. They gonna hold the release till the pandemic is over. The Best Till today century 21 guitar player. Bloody awesome. I just love the expressions on Joes face during his performances. clearly shows sheer enjoyment, enthusiasm, commitment and passion for creating such wonderful music time and time again. An incredibly talented man indeed ??????????????.

Thought this was the Rocks movie about the train worker. Wow, ive been searching for a new living legend to admire. and joe who? joe bon... bono... na. bona. ma. masssa. ah just joe the blues man. he is like richie sambora"s album stranger in this town...
